Take It To The Boards is a tour de force
film about the world's most ancient and spectacular sport - Polo. Once
enjoyed only by kings and aristocrats, Polo is now the sport of a new
breed of horsemen: professional Polo players. The film follows a
handful of these top-rated players as they compete on behalf of the
United States in the Federation of International Polo World Cup VIII.
Take It To The Boards is more than just
a film about Polo. It is about the journey of a group of young people
from everyday backgrounds who dream of representing their country in a
sport that is dangerous, expensive and seemingly exclusive. Never far
behind the glamour and poetic beauty of horse and rider is the sport's
reality of endless hard work, effort and struggle.
In addition to documenting Team USA's progress in the World Cup VIII, Take It To The Boards
examines the history and culture of Polo. Presented in the classic
style of a sports documentary, similar to "Dogtown and Z Boys,"
"Murderball," and "Riding Giants," this film examines life in the
stressful, high-pressure world of Polo where every player is
potentially one accident away from ending his career. In Polo, victory
means little in terms of financial security; it's the thrill of playing
that transcends every obstacle.
Take It To The Boards supports the
efforts of Polo players and fans around the world to reinstate Polo as
an Olympic sport. A portion of proceeds from this production will be
disbursed to Team USA players and to further promote the sport of Polo
in the United States and abroad.
